songs about roving, rambling and plain hard luck & photography from the other side …

going here to there, how we get lost, how we get lost

© Autobahn, Stolpe, 2013, Florian Fritsch

How we get lost, how we get lost / Going here to there / How we get lost, how we get lost / Counting numbers in the air / Counting numbers in the air / Our life’s a song like an old 45 / Start to skip in the groove just to stay alive / But when you close your eyes what do you see? / Do stars align to light the way? / As the twilight fades to gray / Will you rise and shine away / Or will you simply one day disappear? (Jim White)

Folks, it’s a great pleasure & honor all at the same time to be invited by the dear folks of pixartix to participate in their “Straßen & Wege” cycle. So make sure you follow them great photos, great stories & great photographers over there as much as I do.

All the best & safe travels, Fritsch.

Nice composition, I love the darker edges leading the eye to the illuminated garage, following the tyre tracks in the snow. Looks good in B&W too!

There would be a special trip, following only motorways, the E1 and then the E2 and so on, never stopping in the cities, knowing only road restaurants and hotels, gas stations and rest areas, that would be a very special holiday or, even better, a very special life, far from the streets of the cities and their markets of illusions, that would be a way to say no to the life „they“ want to make our lives of consumers.

That is a modern fable, inspired by this beautiful work of yours, Florian, with a little help from the Jim White’s song. A great piece of a dream, a great picture to introduce our post-modern emotions.

One of the strangest feelings is to be away from home on some lonely road, making those stops along the way at stark stations and alien-feeling places. Every time you leave, an arrival is waiting, and you leave enough behind to make you want to turn back toward home. That lonely road calls, though, and it seems that the journey just pulls us along one more time–going here to there–sometimes it is just to keep us alive. Another story that Florian has prompted in my mind. It does it every time–and that is amazing in itself! Nice work!

The photo accompanies the words of White quite well.

    Enjoy your travels, sir.

hello my dear, do you talk to the stars too? yes, one day the stars and we too will just disappear…. transmuted into angels and the stars will finally get to talk back to us ‚lady light, lady bright, first lady i see tonight….‘

lovely, lonely black and white image, reminds me of road trips with my dad when he was a travelling salesman

  9. ay, Fritsch, another masterpiece, man!

sometimes there’s nothing as beautiful as a filling station at night, and your great framing and clair-obscur captures that beauty perfectly, and there’s nothing I’d rather do right now than ride down that lost highway with some dark John Lee Hooker or Howlin‘ Wolf tunes to keep me company through that lonesome night, buddy, there’s nothing I’d rather do ….

keep that magic powder dry, pal!

    Hepp!

And on the endless stretch of road, straight, long, empty and lonely, the lights appear in the distance, then a little station on the side, like a little pond in a desert

Magnifique travail, mon ami.
