well the night does funny things inside a man

© Bar, Berlin, 2013, Florian Fritsch

Well the night does funny things inside a man / These old tom-cat feelings you don’t understand / Well I turn around to look at you, you light a cigarette / I wish I had the guts to bum one but we’ve never met / And I hope that I don’t fall in love with you (Tom Waits)

Folks, it’s a great pleasure & honor all at the same time to be invited by the dear folks of pixartix to participate in their „Straßen & Wege“ cycle. So make sure you follow them great photos, great stories & great photographers over there as much as I do.

All the best & safe travels, Fritsch.

  3. Uwe sagt:

Was wird geschehen?

(HA!) There are some „Unexpected Surprises“ in this depiction… Florian you’ve got there with the reassurance that some things don’t change with „The Passage Of Time“… plus the descriptive-heading well the night does funny things inside a man hahhhahhhaha… I say T R U E (say that five times fast).

Is it sad or lost in thought? No one knows …
    Beautiful scene of life !

    Sincerely

  9. ay, Fritsch, what a great, great shot!

magnificent greys and a composition straight out of the golden age of cinema!

(on a sidenote – I read Uwe’s comment, and even if I’m not completely fluent in German I understand enough to recognize Tomas Espedal and his book „Gå (Eller Kunsten Å Leve Et Vilt og Poetisk Liv)“ as it’s called in Norwegian, and I .. just have to tell you that the bar he’s talking about in the quote is a hundred meters up the road from where I’m sitting right now. it used to be a great hangout for us boys back in the days!)

keep up that great work, buddy!

  10. Unglaublich. „Well the music plays and you display, your heart for me to see.“ Ich würde gerne sehen, wie der Film weiter geht.

A strong capture of this guy thinking about life, loneliness, next whisky bar or lost euros or almost nothing. A lonely guy hundred miles from the waiter. Just bathing in a rock’n’roll ambiant as we may „bath“ in alcohol.

Tom Waits, of course. And the cover of „Small Change“ with the Tom one hundred miles from the girl. Another place and yet the same place. The place where we feel so deeply full of the feeling to be alive and so close to death.

  12. ay, Fritsch – I keep coming back to this picture – it’s just like a diamond, pal! it’s one of my absolute favorites, and the bar … seems like my kind of bar, too.

if I’m ever in Berlin we’ll have to meet up there, just because, buddy, just because!

    Hepp!

And who at one point hasn’t been that man, cheek to the palm, thoughts miles away. The night does funny things indeed

  14. Phil Vaughn sagt:

If this isn’t full of pathos, nothing is. A „hole-in-the-wall“ bar trying to be nothing else and wearing the trappings of glitz–a mirror ball and photos of everything old, a jaded bar tender, a customer so down on his luck and life that no amount of overflowing glasses will ever fill the void. The big unspoken question here is „Is this all there is?“ Some scenes–some situations–just drain the „stuff“ of life and this one touches deeply.
This is art, Fritsch. There is nothing else I can say.

What a wonderful..somber..evocative scene. Well captured!

  16. Solitude et besoin vital !

  17. Frau Blau sagt:

Nice capture! Love the mood of this „café“ with the poster of the King, and the man which seems to be bored, or drunk??
    Have a nice day.
