loading all our treasures into the belly of a sinking ship

© Schirn, Frankfurt am Main 2012 by Fritsch

It’s no wonder how we got here in many ways I wrote this script / By loading all our treasures into the belly of a sinking ship / I tried to hold you but my hands were cold / I meant to catch you but I moved to slow / I hate to leave you but it’s time to go (Langhorne Slim)

    Was also bleibt?

Shooting in a museum is a classical approach: the photographer mainly looks at the visitors, waiting for some interesting attitude. But here, Florian, you chose another point of view. Caillebotte plays no role here. Instead of surprising postures, you show us something external, the corridor leading to the „garderobe“, but wihtout hiding the location, two signs telling us we are in a museum.

And that’s meaningful to me. We are in a corridor that makes me think of the corridors of the egyptian pyramids. Because of your framing, the corridor has something labyrinthical. And there are no differences between mummies and pieces of art: they are all objects we try to preserve. They have death in common. The fact your corridor is desert was a necessary condition, you made it beautifully.

  5. A phased approach.
An invitation to continue the visit.
A great job on the light…
Shadows, blacks are terrible, my friend.

Stone upon stone creating a catacomb to house (or bury) so much of the past. It’s all there to look at and wonder about…and then we leave it behind and return to our homes thinking we have seen our earlier days and nourished our sense of history, but we have a dark doubt that we could have been here in spite of all that has gone on before us. Treasures–stacked, categorized, sanitized, displayed–and we can’t touch the essence of it all. Loved the little journey, Florian. Somehow you keep putting one in front of me every time I see your work.

Go in ! Go in ! And lead the way !
The ship may be sinking but there’s treasures to collect, like this little compositional marvel. I quite like this, all those lines going in

(HA!) Did I just saw Florian via what I call CLEVER „SP-reflection-interplay“… how charming! Liking much the „Switch On and Off“ mode.

    Gruss
